Story Ideas

I may not get to write everyday, but I’m always thinking of new ideas. Currently, there’s a list on my phone of just story concepts, some of them I implement and some never see the light of day.

I try to look at everything as a possible idea. Some people I come across inspire a new character trait and life events can make a great chapter. I’m always open to possibilities.

When I’m experiencing writers block, I take it one idea at a time. This has helped me get out of a rut and write something rather than leave an empty page.

I’m trying to  keep this in mind as I get through a dry spell right now. How is everyone else’s WIP going?

Life Changes

It’s crazy how many things happen within a few months. I haven’t posted in quite a while and that’s because there’s been changes in my life.

In April, I left to New Orleans on vacation and came back engaged! It was a surprise and the past few months have been very busy with wedding planning and work. I now have a few of the important planning details taken care of, so I feel like there is a resting period. I’ve always been told planning a wedding takes a lot of time but never realized it until now.

Aside from that, there has been some writer’s block, which I have been trying to get over and finding motivation to write. I have a lot of material but am not sure what to do with it at this point.

All other excused aside, tonight I will sit down, butt in chair and write for the first time in months. Wish me luck!

The Rush

So many story ideas and not enough time to write them, at least not all at once. It’s hard to buckle down on one project because my mind tends to wander. At any given time I’m working on a novel, a novella and a short story.

I get in a mad rush.

I’m trying to change these habits and work on one at a time, but it’s hard to do. It feels like I’m not doing enough but doing more isn’t always the answer. Burn out and writers block make me not want to write.

I’m trying to simplify it. Even if I only write 500 words a day that’s still 168,000 words a year. That’s quite a bit! That’s a couple of novels and some short stories.

Being a writer can be a very tedious journey, especially when trying to get your foot in the door. For now, I’ll keep it simple and only do what I can, without going too crazy.

Anyone else in the same boat?
